YOUR TASKS

•    As a postdoctoral researcher, you will conduct independent research focused on the development of analytical methods for high-precision isotopic analysis with multi-collector ICP-mass spectrometry (MC-ICP-MS). The main focus is on applications where an alternative sample introduction technique, such as cold vapor generation (CVG), hydride generation (HG), liquid chromatography (HPLC) and other separation techniques and laser ablation (LA), is used for isotopic analysis with MC-ICP-MS. The tasks also include the deployment of the methodology developed for the analysis of real-world samples in an interdisciplinary context.

•    You will contribute to the scientific services provided by the research group to internal and external partners. These services consist mainly of quantitative element determination via ICP-MS and MC-ICP-MS isotopic analysis in a wide variety of contexts.

•    You contribute to the teaching provided by the department, including supervision of thesis students at Master level and of practicals.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

•    You have a PhD degree in (analytical) chemistry.

•    You have extensive experience with the use of both single- and multi-collector ICP-mass spectrometry documented through publications in international peer-reviewed scientific journals.

•    You have extensive experience with the use of speciation analysis implemented using a combination of liquid (HPLC) and/or gas chromatography (GC) coupled to ICP-MS documented through publications in the international peer-reviewed scientific journals.

•    You have proven experience in supervising junior researchers (supervision of thesis students at Master level and PhD students).

•    You have experience with communication of your research results through active participation (poster or lecture) to international conferences.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

-    We offer you a contract of definite duration for the period of 24 months.
-     Your contract will start on 1/02/2025 at the earliest.
-    Your remuneration will be determined by salary scale PD1 to PD4 (if you hold a doctorate).  Click here for more information about our salary scales.
-    All Ghent University staff members enjoy a number of benefits, such as a wide range of training and education opportunities, 36 days of holiday leave (on an annual basis for a full-time job) supplemented by annual fixed bridge days, bicycle allowance and eco vouchers.
