Your assignment
The HPC team from the ICT domain at the University of Ghent offers centralized services in the field of scientific computing, including access to infrastructure, training, and support for researchers from the University of Ghent, industry, and other knowledge institutions. As part of this assignment, this team manages the Tier1 Compute and Cloud infrastructure of the Flemish Supercomputer Centre, which allows researchers from all over Belgium to request resources (such as accounts, computing time, and storage). Additionally, the HPC team is building its own Tier2 compute infrastructure, which provides University of Ghent researchers with access to similar resources.
We are looking for a motivated Linux System Administrator who will focus primarily on managing, optimizing, and further developing our storage environment. At the same time, you will also support general system management and work together with colleagues to maintain and improve our entire IT infrastructure as a System Administrator with a focus on Storage, you will be responsible for:
- Managing our storage solutions
- Performing capacity planning, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting
- Participating in discussions and implementing improvements within the storage infrastructure
- Supporting projects related to HPC, virtualization, cloud, and data management

Your profile
Knowledge and experience
- You have a background in IT
- You have experience with deploying and managing Linux systems
- Experience with HPC systems is a plus
- Experience with scripting or automation in Python is highly valued
- Knowledge of distributed file systems such as Ceph, Lustre, or GPFS is a plus but not necessary
- You speak, read, and write fluent English and have good knowledge of Dutch
