YOUR TASKS

We are hiring a post-doctoral researcher on the topic of “Life cycle assessment of wood-based building materials and buildings”. You will be part of an international and interdisciplinary consortium, working on the Horizon Europe project “WoodStock” that investigates climate-smart construction methods using underutilized wood resources like locally harvested hardwood, low-quality and post-consumer wood.

As a collaborator on the project, you will research how carbon removal of wood-based building materials can be included in life cycle assessment methods. You will inventory and compare existing approaches on biogenic carbon storage ranging from simplified assessment methods to more complex, dynamic LCAs with the objective to propose a robust, transparent and accessible LCA methodology that allows to include the effects of carbon storage.

You will be part of the UGent Building Physics research group (Faculty of Engineering and Architecture).

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You hold a thesis-based doctorate in the field of sustainable and circular buildings
  • You have experience with life cycle assessment of buildings or building elements, knowledge of the LCA-tool Simapro is a plus.

  • You are a dynamic team player

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • We offer you a contract of definite duration of three months for the period from 01/11/2024 to 31/01/2025.
  • Your contract will start on 1/11/2024 at the earliest.
